SAFFORD – The Safford City-Graham County Library will launch its National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program exploring The Bear by Andrew Krivak with a SalsaFest booth on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24. The NEA Big Read in Graham County is presented in partnership with Friends of the Safford Library, the Gila Valley Arts Council, The Graham County School Superintendent’s Office, the Graham County Chamber of Commerce, and Eastern Arizona College, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.  

The kick-off event will feature a booth at SalsaFest in Downtown Safford. Stop by to pick up your free copy of The Bear and a schedule of programs and events.

“The Safford Library is honored to bring the beautiful story of The Bear to Graham County. With its vibrant descriptions of nature and survival, we feel this book will appeal to many members of our community,” said Library Supervisor Lesley Talley.

An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience.

Graham County is one of 62 communities nationwide participating in the 2022-2023 NEA Big Read. From Sept. 23 to Jan. 6, 2023, our community will celebrate The Bear by Andrew Krivakwith a full calendar of events including a presentation on Arizona legends, myths, and folklore, a community book discussion, and two photography exhibits.
