Police searching for ‘hatchet man’

GRAHAM COUNTY – Authorities are on the lookout for Elias Vincente Cruz, 38, after he allegedly attacked a man at his residence with a hatchet during the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 3.

A deputy was dispatched at about 12:15 a.m. to an address on W. Willie’s Way regarding an assault and encountered the reported victim covered in blood. The man had stepped outside of a camper trailer to get a drink of water from a garden hose and the deputy noticed a 3”- to 4”-inch laceration on his forehead.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, the victim stated Cruz knocked on his door and when he answered asked why investigators had been at his the man’s residence. When the victim replied nobody had been at his home Cruz struck him in his head with a hatchet and then left on a bicycle.

While the victim was taken to the Emergency Room at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, the deputy searched for Cruz at a couple of locations he is known to frequent but did not locate him, the bike, or hatchet.

After further patrolling yielded no new results, the deputy placed an attempt to locate (ATL) for Cruz with the Graham County Dispatch. As of this report, he had not been found.
