SAFFORD – It’s time to start canning and cooking with the help of free classes at the Safford City-Graham County Library. 

The library, in conjunction with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, will hold the classes at 10 a.m., starting Wednesday, March 13. The first class will involve green chili chicken soup and an electric pressure cooker/canner. 

Following the initial class, there will be one class per month April – June, each on a Wednesday and starting at 10 a.m. The canning classes schedule is as follows: 

March 13 – Green chili chicken soup with electric pressure cooker/canner

April 3 – Jam using a water-bath canning method good for regular and sugar-free

May 22 – Protein using a pressure canner

June 19 – Vegetables using an electric pressure canner

All classes are free and no registration is needed. Canners must be at least 13-years-old to participate in the classes.
