The storm damaged the road near mile marker 19.5, about half a mile south of the Artesia Road turn off onto Haekel Road, according to the BLM. The road is not passable at the location until emergency repairs are made.

BLM staff placed safety barricades in the area and are assessing the entire span of the road for further damage.

Due to public safety concerns, those traveling Haekel Road are encouraged to take an alternate route. The road is utilized to get to the Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area, which is managed by the BLM. There is no timetable for the road to be fixed.
