YUMA – Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents from the Wellton Station rescued three illegal aliens who had been lost in the desert for two days and were in distress.
Thursday afternoon, an illegal alien called 911 and stated that he and two other illegal aliens had been in the desert for two days and were in need of assistance. Wellton agents responded and found all three subjects within an hour. The agents provided the three men with water and they recovered to the point that they did not require medical attention.
The rescued subjects, ages 32, 24, and 23, were identified as nationals of Mexico unlawfully present in the United States. The three subjects were processed for removal under Title 42.
Humans physically cannot carry enough water to trek through our inhospitable deserts in these rising temperatures and survive. Furthermore, when water becomes warmer than 80 degrees Fahrenheit, it becomes difficult to drink. Crossing the desert in these conditions is hazardous and can prove fatal if a subject cannot reach outside assistance to be located.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials welcome assistance from the community. Individuals can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll-free. Reporting illicit activity could result in saving someone’s life.
