GRAHAM COUNTY – According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there is a risk of severe storms with winds above 60 mph developing today.
Besides potential wind damage such as uprooted trees, roof damage, and knocked-over utility poles disrupting electric service, blowing dust will also be a potential hazard.
There is also an Excessive Heat Warning for the area as well, with dangerous afternoon temperatures from 105 to up to 111 in the desert.
The NWS encourages the public to take extra precautions if they work or spend time outside. “When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.”
“To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 911.”
