WILLCOX – A tornado touched down in the Willcox area Monday night, knocking out power as multiple utility poles were knocked down during the high wind.

The National Weather Service had previously issued a tornado warning for the area. The possible tornado touched down northwest of Hamilton Road around 9:30 p.m., according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

CCSO Public Information Officer Carol Capas said the storm caused structural damage to a number of homes in the area. Pictures of damage to residences and even a commercial building were shown on social media. According to reports, at least three homes were damaged by the possible tornado itself.

Multiple trees were also knocked down during the storm and Cochise County Search and Rescue members were on duty searching for people stuck in damaged residences.

A number of downed utility poles were seen along Hamilton and Fort Grant roads.

Crews from Sulpher Springs Valley Electric were busy throughout the night working to restore power.

A reception center is set up at the Cochise County Service Center at 405 S. Haskell Ave. for those with damaged homes.
