MARICOPA – Last week, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) welcomed Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to Maricopa, Arizona to discuss the importance of funding rural and tribal infrastructure projects. The two were joined by Governor Stephen Roe Lewis of the Gila River Indian Community, Chairman Robert Miguel of the Ak Chin Indian Community, and City of Maricopa Mayor Christian Price at the intersection of Riggs Road and State Route 347.

“Arizonans are forced to drive on some of the most dangerous, outdated roads in America, putting First District families at risk every day on their way to work and school. To that end, I was pleased to welcome Secretary Buttigieg to our district and show him one of the long-overlooked infrastructure projects that impact the daily lives and safety of rural and tribal families throughout southern Arizona,” said Rep. O’Halleran.

SR 347 and Riggs Rd is a notably dangerous intersection that regularly experiences deadly crashes — a trend all too familiar for roads in rural and tribal communities across Arizona.

As part of both the House Appropriations and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees’ Community Project Funding Request process, O’Halleran has advocated for targeted investments that will benefit Arizona’s First Congressional District. View the full lists, HERE.
