GLOBE – The Casey Woodall-coached Wildcats have a lone meet remaining in the 2020 regular season, a multi meet in Globe on Wednesday, Jan. 22. It is their fifth meet of the month and the 12th of the season.
More importantly, it is a final opportunity to compete against a different opponent and for improvement prior to the sectional meet. A dozen practice sessions remain before the most important meet of the season, the state-qualifying sectional meet on Feb. 8.
In four January meets, sophomore Cody Torres (152) is 19-1 with 10 pins, sophomore Shawn Hudman (138, 17-2, 5 pins), senior Carlos Bray (132/145, 16-2), 5 pins), junior Jarret Saiz (160, 16-4, 8 pins), senior Calvin Dunning (126/132, 15-2, 5 pins), freshman Arthur Rodriguez III (195/220, 15-4, 7 pins), senior Omar Ortega (285, 14-3, 4 pins), freshman Jordan Fernandez (106, 13-4, 7 pins), freshman Jaeden Seballos (106/113, 12-3, 3 pins), junior Conrad Aguallo (126, 12-4, 7 pins), senior Steven Roybal (182/195, 10-2, 4 pins), freshman Andrew Castillo (170, 10-5, 3 pins), sophomore Brenden Enriquez (145, 7-6, 5 pins), sophomore Martin Smith (120, 4-2), 1 pin, Solomon Lucero (113, 4-3, 1 pin), sophomore Richard Trott III (182, 3-4), freshman Arianna Sarrett (106, 1-0, 1 pin), and sophomore Kaden Summer (145, 1-2).

Doc Wright Invitational
Morenci returned from Winslow’s 56th annual Doc Wright Invitational with a 13th place (89 points) finish of 46 teams. Marana Mountain View was first (235.5), and New Mexico schools Aztec second (228.5) and Piedra Vista third (204.5).
The Wildcats did not field a full team, but 16 competed. Torres (152, 5-1, 3 pins) placed second and Saiz (160, 4-3, 4 pins) sixth.
Rodriguez (195, 2 pins), Seballos (106, 1 pin), and Hudman (138, 1 pin) went 3-2 apiece; Fernandez (106, 2 pins), Dunning (132), and Bray (145) each 2-2; Lucero (113, 1 pin), Smith (120, 1-2), Enriquez (145, 1 pin), Summer (145), and Ortega (285, 1 pin) 1-2 apiece; and Aguallo (126), Castillo (170), and Trott (182) each 0-2.
Morenci Multi
Six of eight scheduled teams competed in Wildcat Memorial Gymnasium on Jan. 13.
Morenci topped Globe 57-9, Tucson Santa Rita 78-6, and Sells Tohono O’odham 84-0 with a full team.
Globe defeated Santa Rita 53-12 and Tohono O’odham 54-6; Thatcher bested Miami 60-21 and Tohono O’odham 78-0; and Miami had wins of 48-12 over Santa Rita and 48-0 over Tohono O’odham.
The Wildcats won seven of 12 head-to-head bouts, six by pin and a 7-6 decision. The five losses were all by pin. Morenci was awarded 30 forfeit wins.
Smith (120), Dunning (132), Hudman (138), Bray (145), Torres (152), Saiz (160, 1 pin), Castillo (170, 1 pin), Rodriguez (220, 1 pin), and Ortega (285, 2 pins) were 3-0 apiece.
Fernandez (106), Lucero (113), Aguallo (126), Trott (182), and Roybal (195) were each 2-1.
McGlumphy – Comaduran Duals
Morenci finished first of 14 teams competing in the two-day duels meet, with 13 of 14 individual entrants.
The Wildcats downed Douglas 65-12, Tucson Catalina Magnet 78-6, Empire 58-18, Tucson Desert View 69-5, Saint David 75-0, and Tucson Salpointe Catholic 72-6 in the McGlumphy pool. A pairing of the two pool winners resulted in a Morenci 56-12 win over host Benson.
Morenci prevailed in 52 of 60 head-to-head bouts, with 41 pins, two technical falls, four major decisions, and five decisions. The losses were seven by pin, one by technical fall, and two by forfeit. The Wildcats received 31 forfeits.
Seballos (113, 2 pins), Aguallo (120, 5 pins), Dunning (126, 4 pins), Bray (132, 5 pins), Hudman (138, 3 pins), Torres (152, 5 pins), Roybal (182, 4 pins), and Rodriguez (195, 3 pins) each posted 7-0 marks; Fernandez (106, 4 pins), Saiz (160, 3 pins), and Ortega (285, 1 pin) 6-1; Enriquez (145, 2 pin) 4-3; and Castillo (170, 2pins) 5-2.
Individual placements included first for Fernandez, Seballos, Aguallo (1 pin), Dunning (1 pin), Bray,Hudman (1 pin), Torres (1 pin), and Ortega with 2-0 records apiece; Rodriguez was third (1-1, 1 pin), Saiz fourth (0-2), and both Enriquez and Castillo fifth with 1-0 records.
Lucero (113) went 1-0 during the duels portion and Roybal did not participate in the individual portion.
Other team placements included Thatcher third, 48-24 over Empire; Willcox fifth, 41-26 over Salpointe Catholic; Tucson Flowing Wells seventh, 48-24 over Desert View; Tucson Catalina Foothills ninth, 51-18 over Douglas; Pima 11th, 48-24 over Catalina magnet; and Tombstone 13th, 36-30 over Saint David.
