Graham County nearing 300 COVID-19 cases

Six new positives reported Sunday night bring county’s total to 298

SAFFORD – Six new positive COVID-19 tests – all from Safford – has increased Graham County’s total for the entirety of the pandemic to 298.

Each positive test in Graham County accounts for a separate patient, and ages of those who have tested positive are 51 under the age of 20, 80 between 21-34, 115 between 35-64, and 52 who are 65 years old or older. According to numbers from the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, as of Monday morning, there are four positive COVID-19 patients who are currently locally hospitalized.  

According to the Graham County Department of Health and Human Services (GCDHHS), Graham County currently has 238 active cases, with 55 recovered cases, and five COVID-19 related deaths. GCDHHS’ criteria list COVID-19 cases as active until patients are symptom-free for 30 days.

Out of a population of about 39,000, the health department has completed tests on 2,284 people with 1,986 negative results. Even with the new positive results, Graham County continues to have a relatively low transmission rate compared to the rest of the state and is the second-lowest county following Greenlee County.

Greenlee County

No new cases were reported Sunday. Out of 741 tests performed, Greenlee has had 568 negative and 39 positives, with 134 results pending, according to the Greenlee County Health Department.

Greenlee is reporting 26 currently active cases, with 12 recovered, and one COVID-19 related death.

Morenci will be holding a free COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic at Gila Health Resources on Saturday, July 25, from 7 – 11 a.m. Organizers request those attending enter through the Family Medicine parking lot.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, statewide there were 1,559 new cases reported Sunday, with 23 deaths.

The breakdown of positive tests by county include Maricopa County with 96,711, followed by Pima County with 13,594, Yuma County – 9,374, Pinal County – 6,651, Navajo County – 4,817, Apache County – 2,740, Coconino County – 2,675, Santa Cruz County – 2,340, Mohave County – 2,281, Yavapai County – 1,394, Cochise County – 1,260, Gila County – 573, La Paz County – 435, Graham County – 298, and Greenlee County – 40.
