Graham County announces two additional deaths attributed to COVID-19

SAFFORD – The Graham County Department of Health and Human Services announced two new deaths attributed to COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The new deaths were a patient from the San Carlos Apache Tribe and a Safford resident over the age of 65. The new deaths bring Graham County’s total to 31 for the course of the pandemic.

The health department also announced 24 new positive tests, with 14 coming from the San Carlos Apache Tribe, seven from Safford, two from Pima, and one from Thatcher. The new tests push the county’s total to 1,307 for the course of the pandemic, with 856 recovered, 420 active, and 31 deaths.

The breakdown of ages for the county’s cases include 295 less than 20 years old, 553 between the ages of 20-44, 149 between the ages of 45-54, and 179 who are 65 or older.

Greenlee County

The Greenlee County Health Department listed three new cases Monday night, to increase the county’s total to 106 for the course of the pandemic.

As of Monday, the county has administered tests to 1,667 people, with 1,561 negative, 106 positive, 44 active, 60 recovered, and two deaths.

San Carlos Apache Tribe

The San Carlos Apache Tribe stretches into both Graham and Greenlee counties and its cases add to the respective counties’ cases based on the geography of where the patients live.

On Tuesday, the San Carlos Apache Tribe Department of Health & Human Services reported 27 new positive tests. To date, the Tribe has administered 11,599 tests, with 9,651 negative, and 1,818 positive. The Tribe lists 1,616 recovered patients, with 182 active cases, 130 tests pending, and 20 deaths.

The area breakdown includes Gilson Wash: 310 positive, 274 recovered, 31 active, five deaths; Peridot: 604 positive, 547 recovered, 47 active, 10 deaths; 7-Mile: 368 positive, 334 recovered, 30 active, four deaths; Bylas: 430 positive, 334 recovered, 61 active, one death; Other: 106 positive, 93 recovered, 13 active.

Statewide

For the state, the Arizona Department of Health Services reported 1,679 new cases Tuesday to bring the total to 249,818 for the state. It reported 38 new deaths to bring the total fatalities due, at least in part, to COVID-19 to an amended 6,020 in Arizona. The state has about 7.3 million residents.

Reported positive cases in the various counties include Maricopa County with 161,154, Pima County – 29,141, Yuma County – 14,071, Pinal County – 12,312, Navajo County – 6,579, Coconino County – 5,470, Mohave County – 4,538, Apache County – 4,042, Santa Cruz County – 3,078, Yavapai County – 3,102, Cochise County – 2,256, Gila County – 2,034, Graham County – 1,307, La Paz County – 630, Greenlee County – 104 (county has it at 106).
