MORENCI – The 2019 Freeport McMoRan Inc. Company Picnic at the Morenci Plaza on Oct. 5 was a huge event enjoyed by many.

Steps spaced apart were one of the many challenges facing those who took on the challenges of the daredevil contraption at the 2019 FMI Company Picnic on Oct. 5. Many of those who were at ground level and watching said the gutsy attempts caused them to hold their breath in suspense and anticipation of challenges being met.

The American Legion Post 28 food booth served hamburgers and was a busy site throughout the day. Legionnaires sold their popular burgers from mid-morning into the evening. Throughout the entire time a long line of people waited for the Legion’s version of delicious civilian chow.

One of the most popular activities was Dunk Your Boss. At left is one of the huge tires used on such equipment as haul trucks at the Morenci copper mine. The Freeport McMoran Incorporated Morenci mine is the largest operating open-pit copper mine in North America.

This year’s theme was “Circus” and Morenci Community Center staff member Patricia Percival dressed as a gypsy  She is a member of the physical fitness center staff where she is one of the friendly, helpful staff members who are at the front desk.

Parents and others observe happy children as they enjoy riding bumper boats on a tarp that simulates the deep blue of the water. The ride, held in front of Gila Health Resources in the Morenci Plaza, was one of the many fun activities for children at the 2019 Freeport McMoran Company Picnic on Oct. 5.
