Duncan tennis girls top Roughriders in Pima

PIMA – Duncan’s tennis girls finished the regular season with a 6-3 win in Pima on April 16.

The Wildkats were third in the Division III – Section I standings stayed third (7-5, 7-5 section), Thatcher (14-0, 12-0) and Safford (12-3, 9-3), and ahead of Benson (7-7, 6-6), Willcox (6-8, 4-8), Morenci (4-10, 2-10), and Pima (4-10, 2-10).

Duncan is 38-34 in singles and 17-19 in doubles, including a forfeit loss both in singles and doubles.

In singles, No. 2 junior Kaitlyn Lunt is 12-0, No. 3 sophomore Melissa Claridge 8-4, No. 1 senior Brooklyn Kempton 7-5, No. 4 junior Lynnie Neilson 5-7, No. 5 sophomore Kinsley Rapier 5-7, and No. 6 freshman Ella Jernigan 1-10.

The Kempton – Claridge duo is 8-3, Lunt – Neilson 7-4, Kempton – Lunt 1- 0, Claridge – Neilson 0-1, and Rapier – Jernigan 1-10.

Duncan – 6, Pima – 3

Four singles and two doubles pairings ended in victories for Duncan.

The singles wins were by Lunt (6-0 twice over senior Reah Matthews), Claridge (6-3, 6-2 over senior Kamry Bryce), and Neilson (6-1 twice over senior Kiora Wood).

In doubles, it was Kempton – Claridge (8-1 over Blair – Bryce) and Rapier – Jernigan (8-2 over Matthews – Wood) with wins.

Pima wins were by junior Riley Cluff (6-0, 6-1 over rapier), sophomore Allison Lunt (6-0 twice over Jernigan), and Cluff – Lunt (8-0 over Rapier – Jernigan).
