CLIFTON – At just 16 years old, Jeremy Lacey is quickly emerging as one of the brightest young talents in American cornhole.

The Arizona high school junior made headlines on Saturday, April 11, by winning two state championships at the Arizona State Scholar Championships (AZSCC) in Sahuarita. Lacey claimed gold in both singles and doubles in the High School division, showcasing remarkable composure and precision under pressure.
In the High School doubles final, he teamed up with partner Minnabella Woods from Sahuarita to secure the title. He followed that up by winning the High School singles championship, defeating strong competition from his doubles partner in a hard-fought final.
Cornhole, once viewed as nothing more than a casual backyard game, has transformed into a legitimate competitive sport. Organizations like the American Cornhole League (ACL) now offer official rankings, sponsorship opportunities, and national tournaments. Lacey has already made significant strides in this scene. Last July, he earned his junior pro status at the ACL World Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he competed against top players from around the country.
“Points are never given; they are always earned,” Lacey said after his victories. “It doesn’t matter who I’m playing against — it takes a lot of practice and self-discipline to become a better player.”
Lacey’s love for the game began at age 10, when he started playing casually with family in the backyard and joined local events with the Copper Town Baggers in Clifton, Arizona. His natural accuracy and dedication quickly set him apart from other players.
Fresh off these state titles, Lacey is already looking ahead. Next month, he plans to compete at the Rhode Island Open, hosted by the ACL. He will enter junior singles, blind draws, open singles, and open doubles — facing both fellow juniors and seasoned adult competitors.
His busy schedule continues at the end of May, when he will step up to compete in the adult division at the ACL Arizona State Tournament.
As cornhole continues to grow in popularity nationwide, young athletes like Jeremy Lacey are proving that talent, hard work, and determination can overcome any age barrier.
Best of luck in your upcoming tournaments, Jeremy!
