GILA COUNTY – On Oct. 19, a wild grey fox was obtained by Arizona Game and Fish and brought to Gila County Animal Care & Control. The fox, captured in the Rye area on Forest Service Road 379, has been confirmed positive for rabies.
What to Watch For: If you encounter wild animals behaving abnormally, such as appearing unusually friendly, unafraid of people, active during the day (when they are normally nocturnal), or displaying aggressive behavior, please contact Gila County Animal Care & Control immediately at (928) 425-5882.
Safety Precautions
1. Keep Pets Safe: Always keep pets on a leash and ensure they are up to date on rabies vaccinations. Pets should wear current license tags for identification.
2. Observe Wildlife from a Distance: Never approach or attempt to feed wild animals, whether they appear alive or deceased. Enjoy wildlife safely and from afar.
3. Report Animal Bites Immediately: If bitten by an animal or if exposed to an animal’s saliva, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water, and contact your healthcare provider and Gila County Animal Care & Control without delay.
