GRAHAM COUNTY – A belligerent, intoxicated man had an altercation with his brothers go awry Wednesday, Sept. 11, and it resulted in multiple charges against multiple individuals and the man being hospitalized with bleeding in his brain.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, a deputy was dispatched at about 11:11 p.m. to South Cheyenne Drive regarding a domestic incident involving an intoxicated man.

Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with brothers Adam Garza, Aaron Garza, Michael Caldron, and a fourth brother. Caldron advised that Aaron was driving while intoxicated earlier in the night and had crashed his car off U.S. Highway 191 a few miles south of Highway 366 (Swift Trail). The vehicle was later located at the residence and was photographed by a deputy.

Caldron said he and his brothers responded to assist Aaron, who was jumping out into the middle of the highway. He said they took Aaron home, but he became combative and slapped him in the face. Adam also reported that Aaron had punched him in his face as well. The deputy reported that no injuries were seen on either Caldron or Adam. Both Caldron and Adam reported fighting back and punching Aaron and taking him to the ground. Afterward, Aaron left and went to the neighbor’s house.

The neighbor advised that Aaron had knocked on his door and said his brothers had assaulted him. He said the brothers began to come over to his house but he told the subjects to stay separated until the authorities arrived.

Aaron was visibly intoxicated and had a swollen and bruised left eye and cheek along with a bloody nose and bloody lips, according to the report. He denied crashing his car and said his brothers pulled him out and started beating on him. He also advised that he was in the roadway attempting to flag down a ride. The deputy assessed that Aaron was too intoxicated to give a clear statement and he was turned over to paramedics from Lifeline Ambulance to assess.

Afterward, the deputy placed Aaron under arrest for assault, threatening or intimidating, and disorderly conduct and transported him to the Graham County Adult Detention Facility. However, upon arrival at the jail, the deputy was informed that Aaron would have to be medically cleared prior to being admitted to the jail.

The deputy then took Aaron to the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, where a CAT scan, X-Rays, and an evaluation discovered that Aaron had suffered bleeding in his brain and he would likely be sent to Banner – University Medical Center Tucson for treatment. The deputy also noted that Aaron’s face had become significantly more swollen. Aaron was then released from custody and turned over to the hospital’s care.

Upon the realization of the severity of Aaron’s injury, the deputy then requested the Graham County Attorney’s Office pursue aggravated assault charges against Caldron and Adam Garza.

“The extent of the injuries to Aaron and no injuries to the other subjects shows that Michael (Caldron) and Adam did not just defend themselves, but they excessively hit Aaron multiple times, causing serious physical injury,” the deputy wrote in his report.
