MOUNT GRAHAM – First responders rescued a woman and recovered her vehicle Saturday after she rolled off a cliff in a switchback area of Highway 366 on Mount Graham.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, the female driver rolled her vehicle off a cliff in the area of mile marker 124. An Arizona Department of Transportation Trooper assisted the Sheriff’s Office deputy at the scene. Officers were dispatched to the area at about 4:10 p.m. after receiving a call from another reporting party.

Dispatch notes from the reporting party stated the driver was coming down the mountain when she went off the side at one of the switchbacks. Mount Graham has several switchbacks and no guardrails on its paved road. Some areas feature drops of hundreds of feet.

The report listed the driver had minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics from Lifeline Ambulance before being transported to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center.

The highway was blocked off for a time to allow Nutcracker Towing to retrieve the vehicle from the side of the cliff.
