SAFFORD – A 19-year-old woman visiting from out of town reported being sexually assaulted at a New Year’s Eve party when she was too intoxicated to give consent.
An officer responded to the Emergency Room of the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center on Jan. 1 at about 9:21 p.m. regarding the incident.
The victim advised that she had been at a party the previous night and had become very intoxicated. She said she didn’t remember much about the party and, when she awoke that morning in her hotel room with her female friend and younger brother, the back of her head and arms hurt and she was having abdominal pains. She also advised finding semen on the inside of her pants.
The victim had already showered prior to her arrival at the hospital, but her pants were placed into evidence.
The victim informed the officer the name of the male subject who owned the house where the party was held and said she would get a sexual assault kit performed on her in Phoenix. Later in the officer’s shift, the victim called back and said she had gone to Phoenix to get the kit done but since it would be for DNA and the police already had the fluid on the pants she decided against doing it.
The case is currently under investigation.
