SAFFORD – A 24-year-old woman with three young children all still in diapers claimed that the two males she was with made her steal alcohol from Walmart or she would be assaulted by them. The males were later located and were identified as a 14-year-old and 11-year-old juveniles.

An officer was dispatched at about 12:06 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, to the Walmart at 755 S. 20th Ave. regarding a woman who attempted to steal $336.41 worth of alcohol.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the suspect, identified as Angelina Hanna Chatlin. According to the police report, Chatlin initially said the boys had placed the bottles of alcohol in her cart without her knowledge and she accidentally walked out of the store without paying for them. When that didn’t fly with the officer, Chatlin “changed her story several times” before landing on that the boys would beat her if she didn’t steal the booze.

The juveniles were located in a truck outside of the store and advised that they knew Chatlin was going to try and steal the liquor, so they walked away from her because they didn’t want to be a part of it.

Chatlin was given a citation for shoplifting and was trespassed from the store. She was then released from the scene.
