SAFFORD – Tiffany Anne Morton, 19, of Safford, was arrested for DUI-drug on April 2 after passing out in a running vehicle parked in the road, roughly seven feet from the curb.

A responding party had alerted police regarding the situation at about 4:12 p.m. and said the woman had been there with her head down for nearly an hour.

Upon arrival to the area of 12th Street and 9th Place, the officer noticed the driver’s side seat was fully reclined and the occupant, later identified as Morton, was unconscious.

After turning the engine off, the officer roused Morton, who appeared sluggish.

Though Morton initially denied being under the influence of any substance, after failing field sobriety tests she allegedly admitted to smoking methamphetamine the previous day and marijuana that morning. A small amount of marijuana was found in her underclothing.

Morton allegedly said she was very sleepy and attempted to drive to her aunt’s home so she could go to bed. The vehicle was located in the street in front of Morton’s aunt’s residence.

After taking blood for testing purposes, Morton was released to her aunt. Charges including DUI-drug are pending lab test analysis of the blood evidence.
