SAFFORD – A woman has accused her now-estranged husband of taking advantage of her when she was intoxicated and sexually assaulting her.

Officers were dispatched to the woman’s residence the afternoon of Jan. 20 after the husband – who had been living in his car parked at Walmart for the previous 10 days – arrived and a disturbance ensued.

At that time, the woman informed the officers that her husband had sexually assaulted her more than two weeks prior by having sex against her will while she was intoxicated. The woman said she verbally told him she did not want to have sex but he insisted. She said she felt she was too drunk to consent to having sex but that she knew he “would only take about two minutes to finish, so I just let him finish so I could go back to throwing up,” she explained to the officer.

The woman also stated that she caught her husband masturbating a few nights afterward while both of them were in bed with their 2-year-old daughter sleeping between them. After that incident, the husband left the house and began living in his car.

The husband allegedly admitted he was sober while his wife was drunk but said he just wanted to make her feel better and show a sign of affection after he was finished holding her hair while she vomited. He said the sex was consensual.

He also denied masturbating and said he just had his hand down the front of his pants as men happen to do at times.

The officer requested the husband not return to the home that day and he agreed and said he wasn’t trying to cause any issues. The sexual conduct case was forwarded to investigations.
