Wildcats’ boys of summer take two in a row, look to continue streak against Benson on Monday

EAGAR – With their “Field of Dreams” nearly complete, the Morenci Wildcats (2-3 region, 6-3 conference, 8-5 overall) opened a five-game road trip with an 8-7 victory over the Round Valley Elks (1-0 region, 5-2 conference, 8-4 overall) on March 20.

The Wildcats benefitted from two home runs by Austyn Nelson, with the pitching victory going to Aaron Mason. 

Morenci followed up the win with a 6-3 victory over the St. Johns Redskins (1-0 region, 4-1 conference, 8-2 overall) on March 22, handing St. Johns its first regular-season game loss this year. (St. Johns also fell 4-18 to the 4A Holbrook Roadrunners during the Joseph City Baseball Invitational Tournament on March 8.) 

The Wildcats will travel to Benson on Monday to face the Bobcats and then come back to the Gila Valley to face the Pima Roughriders on March 26 in Pima.

The road trip culminates by traveling to Tucson on April 2 to face the Santa Rita Eagles. 

Morenci will have two home games on April 5 versus Bisbee and April 9 versus St. Johns before its 44th annual Lion’s Club Tournament on April 11-13.
