Please take time to honor those who serve our country–Veterans Day Weekend events throughout Gila County include:

The San Carlos Apache Tribe Veterans’ Banquet will be Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. in Peridot (details at https://www.facebook.com/SCATveterans); just one of many events this week where Apaches honor veterans, including the Veterans All Indian Rodeo Nov. 9-12 at the Apache Gold Event Center; Frazier Shows carnival is also at the casino Thursday-through-Sunday (carnival rides Nov. 9-10 are free!)

In addition to Saturday morning’s massive parade – which will include a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps by the San Carlos Apache Veterans Association – an 8K run and 1 mile walk, car show, and athletic tournaments will be held on Saturday; Veterans Powwow is Nov. 11-12.

GLOBE: The Globe Elks Lodge hosts a Friday night dinner on Nov. 10 of hamburgers and hotdogs, free to veterans from 5:30 – 7 p.m.

On Saturday, VFW POST 1704 hosts an 11 a.m. ceremony at Globe City Park to honor all who proudly served our country, following that, the Henry Berry American Legion Post 4 invites veterans to a free lunch inside the Legion Hall at 645 S. Broad St.

MIAMI: The town of Miami observes Veterans Day with a traditional ceremony “on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” at Veterans Memorial Park on Sullivan Street, and all are welcome to attend.
Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., the Globe Miami Centennial Band invites all to a free Veterans Day concert at Bullion Plaza.

PAYSON: The Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 10 is at 11 a.m. in the Payson High School Auditorium following the theme: ‘Honoring All Who Served and Those Who Support Them’, with a program including welcoming remarks, special tributes, presentation of colors, invocation, and benediction.

Scheduled to speak are Payson Mayor Chris Higgins; Police Chief Ronald Tischer, and Payson Fire Chief David Staub. 

There’s also a Veteran’s Day program at Green Valley Park on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

Also in Payson, there is a free lunch for vets at Rosati’s on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (ID required as part of the purchase).

Payson Elks Lodge hosts a shrimp and steak dinner for veterans at 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11 at the lodge, plus a ceremony at 6 p.m. and live music by Sol DeVille.

Veterans can enjoy the steak and shrimp dinner for free, non-veterans pay $25 per person.
