SAFFORD – A blind bicyclist who was riding a tandem bike with her acquaintance was slightly struck by a vehicle shortly before 11:39 a.m. on Jan. 20. No injuries were reported.

According to a Safford Police report, the bicyclists advised they were southbound on 8th Avenue when they turned right onto U.S. Highway 70 (also known through that part of the city as Thatcher Boulevard). The vehicle, driven by Rufus Ganilla, was also southbound on 8th Avenue and also turned right onto U.S. Highway 70.

When Ganilla made his turn, however, he slightly struck the bicyclists. No damage was seen on his vehicle. Ganilla reportedly corroborated the bicyclists’ version of events.

However, Ganilla was found to be driving on a suspended license and he was issued a citation for doing so.
