Staff Reports

MORENCI – U.S. Highway 191 North will begin overnight closures just north of Morenci on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The closures are scheduled to last about seven weeks and are being enacted for repairs to a rock tunnel.

The closures are scheduled for Monday through Saturday nights between 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). During those hours, no vehicles will be allowed to pass through an area just north of Morenci between mileposts 169 and 171.

Those who normally travel U.S. Highway 191 North from Morenci to Alpine will have to instead take U.S. Highway 191 South from Morenci to Three-Way, then follow State Route 78 east into New Mexico and take U.S. Highway 180 north to Alpine during the closure hours instead.
