TUCSON – The weeks of travel paid off for three Thatcher-area youths who won the Tucson SOAZ (Southern Arizona) NFL Flag League 5-on-5, Under-12 Championship on Saturday.
Sierra Vista Wolverines Coach Tim Miller is joined on the team by his son, Deegan Miller (12) (quarterback), Jacob Ortiz (3) (receiver), and Matthew Ortiz (6) (defensive back), all from Thatcher. Every week, the coach and trio of players travel to Sierra Vista for practice.
After defeating the TGL Knights, the Wolverines took on the Vail Vikings in the championship game at Mica Mountain High School in Tucson on Saturday and prevailed 14-13 to capture the trophy.
