SAFFORD – Hayden Lopez, 18, was given a citation for underage with alcohol in body while operating a motor vehicle on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Lopez reportedly did not recall being in a hit-and-run incident but the reported victim followed him and called the authorities. When a traffic stop was initiated, officers could not find any damage regarding the hit-and-run but noticed Lopez appeared to be intoxicated.

Upon questioning, Lopez allegedly admitted to consuming “a few beers.” Lopez showed other indicators of being under the influence of alcohol but a portable breath test was not able to be performed due to an equipment malfunction, according to the report.

After being given his citation, Lopez was released to a family member, who also took control of Lopez’s vehicle.
