GRAHAM COUNTY – A man was arrested for DUI in the early morning hours of May 6 after being found unconscious with his vehicle high-centered on a berm on the north side of U.S. Highway 70.
Sergio Herrera was arrested for DUI after admitting to drinking at a local bar and failing field sobriety tests.
Officers were dispatched to the area of mile marker 341 of U.S. Highway 70 just east of Safford at about 3:08 a.m. regarding a red sedan high-centered on a dirt berm off the highway. The area is roughly four miles west of a DUI-involved fatality that occurred Saturday, May 25.
Upon arrival, officers located Herrera asleep in the vehicle. According to evidence at the scene, it appeared Herrera had driven from the back of an adjacent trailer park to the crash scene.
Despite Herrera advising he had only drunk at a local bar, multiple open containers of alcohol were located inside the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office report.
After a blood sample was obtained for testing purposes, Herrera was released to a family member. The car was towed from the scene. Criminal charges are pending lab test results and review by the County Attorney’s Office.
