Sumner re-elected as Greenlee County Sheriff

GREENLEE COUNTY – With a parity of four candidates, Greenlee County Sheriff Tim Sumner managed to edge out his competition to be re-elected.

With a final vote tally of 1,333, Sumner received more votes than his top challenger, Eric Ellison (1,203) and Democratic challenger, Larry Avila (827). Independent Jaime Aguilar also received 309 votes.

The tally is final except for five provisional ballots, which won’t make a difference in any race.

In other contested races, Democrat David Gomez was re-elected to the Board of Supervisors District 1 with 417 votes compared to Nicole Horn with 311 and Jacob Brinkley with 185.

Independent Richard Lunt was re-elected to District 3 with 764 votes compared to 551 votes for his Republican challenger, Suzanne Menges.

Joann “JoJo” Cathcart was elected as County Assessor, with 2,316 votes to 1,143 for Doug Reed.
