Sumner out as Greenlee Sheriff

The deputy believes the infraction was done on purpose to force a traffic stop as part of ongoing harassment from the sheriff.

GREENLEE COUNTY – There’s a new sheriff in town, but unlike Graham County, Greenlee County will have to wait until the General Election in November to see who it is.

It won’t be incumbent Sheriff Tim Sumner, however, who was beaten in the Republican Primary on Tuesday night by challenger Dale Sloan.

As of election night, with all but about 20 votes from the Blue Precinct accounted for and 101 total early votes dropped off on Election Day to be tabulated, Sloan led Sumner and the Gila Herald called the election. The following day, a full vote total showed 332 for Sloan to 316 for Sumner.. All election results are unofficial until canvassed by the Greenlee County Board of Supervisors.

On the Democrat side, Daniel Medina ran unopposed and received 386 votes.

Independent candidate Eric Ellison will join the two men on the General Election ticket in November.
