SAFFORD – A suicidal woman was transported to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center for a mental health evaluation Sunday morning after she was reportedly lying in the roadway of U.S. Highway 191 south of Safford in an attempt to have a vehicle strike her.
Graham County Sheriff’s Office deputies were joined by an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper and officers with the Safford Police Department at the scene in the 4500 block of U.S. Highway 191 at about 5:22 a.m.
Upon arrival, the woman’s mother had parked her car on the highway to block other vehicular traffic from hitting her daughter, who had been lying in the roadway in an attempt to be run over. At that point, the daughter had gotten up and was walking alongside the roadway, according to the deputy’s report.
The suicidal woman was not cooperative, according to the deputy’s report, and the deputy ended up transporting her to the hospital in his patrol vehicle where she had a psychiatric evaluation.
