Special Olympics Youth Track and Field Competition is Friday

SAFFORD – The Monument Area Safford Youth Track and Field Competition will hit the ground running Friday, April 6, at Safford High School at 1400 W. 11th St with the community-wide, all-ages event the following day on Saturday at the same times.

Get there early to cheer on your favorite Special Olympian as the contest starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp with its opening ceremonies.   

Events include powerlifting, the 50-, 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes, 4×100 relay, the 100- and 400-meter walk, 10- and 25-meter assisted walk, 25- and 30-meter wheelchair slalom, shot put, softball throw, and standing long jump.

After the Saturday competition, athletes and volunteers will have lunch donated to them by the Safford Lions Club, which will be grilling hamburgers.

So bring your game face and come out and cheer for these Special Olympians on Friday, April 6 at the Safford High School from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, April 7 for the community-wide event.
