SAFFORD – The Safford Police have one robbery suspect who reportedly held up a convenience store Thursday night in custody and have possibly identified his accomplice.

The department issued a press release Monday regarding a robbery that took place at the Speedway convenience store at 300 E. U.S. Highway 70 on Thursday, April 27.

According to the release, authorities were dispatched to the store at about 10 p.m. regarding a silent alarm. When they arrived, officers were told that two black or Hispanic men entered the store – one of them brandishing a firearm – and demanded money from the cashier.

After the cashier complied, the robbery suspects left the area. Officers searched the vicinity immediately afterward but were unable to locate the suspects at that time.

However, during the course of their investigation, officers and detectives located a person of interest, and one suspect was arrested on charges unrelated to the robbery with a second possible suspect identified, according to Safford Police Captain Brian Avila.

The police investigation is ongoing.
