DUNCAN — An 18-year-old Clifton man is facing six serious felony charges after allegedly sexually assaulting and choking a 15-year-old girl in a date-rape situation at a Duncan residence earlier this month.
Isaac Edward Louis, 18, of Clifton, was arrested by Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Sept. 18. A long-form criminal complaint was officially filed against him on Sept. 22 in Duncan Justice Court, with charges including sexual assault, sexual conduct with a minor, aggravated assault – impede breathing/domestic violence, aggravated assault – victim bound or restrained, aggravated assault – disfigurement, loss, or impairment of an organ, and endangerment – substantial risk of imminent death
According to Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office reports, the investigation began on Sept. 7, around 10:15 p.m., when deputies were dispatched to Gila Health Resources in Morenci regarding a sexual and aggravated assault report.
At the clinic, responding law enforcement personnel observed visible injuries on the 15-year-old victim, including bruising and redness on the outer areas of her neck and lighter bruising along the center of her neck consistent with strangulation. Medical reports noted that during the attack, the victim was allegedly choked until she lost consciousness, and the suspect attempted to digitally penetrate her.
Investigators arranged for the victim to undergo a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) kit exam and a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southern Arizona in Tucson on the morning of Sept. 8. Authorities also submitted a mandatory report to the Arizona Department of Child Safety via the Guardian Portal.
Detectives gathered digital evidence from Snapchat accounts and vehicle photos, which linked Louis to the trailer where the assault allegedly occurred. The victim’s mother informed deputies that she had been out of town helping a friend move at the time of the assault at their residence in Duncan.
Interrogation and Arrest
On Sept. 18, deputies interviewed Louis at the Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office.
After being read his Miranda rights, he initially denied knowing anyone in Duncan or visiting the area recently, before changing his timeline to say he visited Duncan about two weeks prior to smoke marijuana. Louis initially claimed he met a female on Snapchat who invited him to Duncan. He said he hung out and smoked weed with the girl but asserted he left on foot along Highway 75 at midnight after learning she was underage, denying that he ever entered her trailer.
When investigators questioned him about potential DNA evidence and explained the severity of the charges—specifically highlighting the choking, loss of consciousness, and sexual assault allegations—Louis changed his statement. He acknowledged making out and performing oral sex on the victim, but denied hitting or choking her.
Louis then invoked his right to an attorney, concluding the interview, and he was placed under arrest.
While being escorted to a patrol vehicle, Louis made repeated statements threatening self-harm and stating his life was ruined. He was then booked into the Greenlee County Jail, where staff placed him on suicide watch and contacted a crisis counselor. As of Thursday, Louis remained in jail on a $20,000 bond.
