Sheriff’s Office investigating woman’s death south of Safford

GRAHAM COUNTY – The Graham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which a woman was found deceased in the Freeman Flats area south of Safford. 

The deceased woman has been identified as Tameka Alexander, 42, of Morenci. 

According to a Sheriff’s Office release, Graham County Dispatch received a call regarding Alexander’s body being found at about 5:12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7. Alexander’s vehicle – a black Ford Expedition – was found in the area as well, which was southwest of the water tower, south of Safford. 

In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Safford and Thatcher police departments and members of the Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted at the scene. 

The incident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and an autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the Pima County Office of Medical Examiner on Friday, July 9.
