MOUNT GRAHAM – A small fire burning ponderosa pine roughly a half-mile west of Ladybug Saddle on Mount Graham had its forward progress stopped at 1.6 acres as of 7:10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Two crews, three engines, three water tenders, a medium helicopter, and other miscellaneous resources were allocated to quench the fire before it spread, according to a Facebook post by the U.S. Forest Service – Coronado National Forest.

The Forest Service reminds visitors that the forests are very dry and Stage 2 fire restrictions are currently in place that bans campfires, charcoal grills, and recreational shooting. Fireworks are always prohibited in the forests.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be possibly human-caused.

Mount Graham suffered its last major fire in 2017 when the Frye Fire burned roughly 49,000 acres throughout June and July.
