SAFFORD – The Safford City-Graham County Library is gearing up for a year full of science exploration for children in Graham County. Registration day will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, for three separate programs.

ScienceCity has been a staple of the Safford Library for several years. ScienceCity is a series of free learning experiences where kids can explore a wide variety of sciences and science careers thru hands-on, interactive programs. This year’s presenters include local scientists and educators as well as some of the top scientific institutions in the state, such as the Arizona Science Center and Brain STEM. ScienceCity is funded through the generous support of United Way of Graham County and private donations.

Library Coding Club is for all 8-13-year olds with an interest or passion for technology. The library’s free weekly Coding Clubs are geared toward learning technology, problem-solving skills, and achievement working in teams.

Coding Club seeks to give your child a quality experience in all the categories that they can take with them heading into further education and the workforce. Students will work individually and together to learn basic computer code and how to design their own games using beginner-friendly sites such as Scratch and Code.org. Coding Club is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Fun with Math and Science is for children ages 3 to 5 and their adults. This six-week program introduces fundamental concepts of math and science using play and books. Each family will also receive a library of age-appropriate STEM books!

Fun with Math and Science is funded through the Rural Activation and Innovation Network (RAIN) and the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Library is also pleased to be partnering with the Friends of the Library and First Things First to make this program happen for our young children.

While all these programs are offered free of cost, registration is required. Enrollment will be held starting at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, in the program room of the Safford Library. Spaces are limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Children may only be enrolled by their parents or legal guardians. No exceptions.
