Schedule of events for Fourth of July celebrations

Following is the schedule of events for Fourth of July Independence Day celebrations for Graham and Greenlee counties for Wednesday, July 4.

Graham County:

6 – 10 a.m. Fishing Derby at the Graham County Fairgrounds. Those fishing must have a license. No net fishing is allowed.   Awards will be given for the top attendees.

Pima:

6 – 8 a.m. Pancake Breakfast at Heritage Park.  Cost $3, free for veterans and active military

Flag-raising, music, and breakfast

Thatcher:

5:30 a.m. – Fireman wakeup call

6 a.m. – People Parade from Stadium Avenue to First Street, then east to Fourth Avenue and south to the Thatcher Middle School

7 a.m. – Flag raising and “We the People” patriotic program

8 a.m. – Watermelon Bust Those south of U.S. Highway 70 bring two cantaloupes and those north bring one watermelon

8 a.m. – Fireman Water Fun

9 a.m. – Free swim at EAC pool

Safford:

9:45 a.m. – Opening flag ceremony

10 a.m. – Let Freedom Ring Parade down Main Street

Dusk – The annual fireworks show at the Graham County Fairgrounds. The fireworks show is hosted by the Safford Lion’s Club, with assistance from the Safford Fire Department, the city of Safford, the town of Thatcher and Freeport McMoRan.

Greenlee County

Morenci:

9 a.m. Parade down Burro Alley

9:30 – 11:30 a.m. – Morenci Fire Association activities at Morenci High School football field

10 a.m – 3 p.m. – Community Center will have Arizona Bounce Around inflatables in the gym

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – DeGrazia Park will have a petting zoo

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Free swim and games at Morenci Pool

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Community Center large water slide

10:30 a.m. – Morenci Theater Jurassic World tickets giveaway

1 – 3 p.m. DeGrazia Park Games and activities

Main Stage Entertainment

10 a.m – 12 p.m. – Jean and the Chocolate Drops

12 – 1 p.m. – Hot dog eating contest

1 – 3 p.m. Savannah Jack

Dusk – Fireworks over tailings by Morenci Fire Department

Duncan:

7 – 10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast at 207 SE Old West Highway
