ARIZONA – The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released an advisory regarding a rash of incidents where ICE phone numbers have been “spoofed” by telephone scammers.
When the scammer calls a potential victim, the number on the caller ID reflects the real ICE phone number. The scammer claims to be an ICE agent and threatens arrest.
This is a reminder that ICE or any other law enforcement agency will never call someone looking for money under the threat of arrest. If someone is claiming to be an ICE agent, do not make any payment and instead report the phone call to the ICE Tip Line at 1-866-347-2423 or via the internet at www.ice.gov/tipline.
