SAN CARLOS – Residents on the San Carlos Apache Reservation are being evacuated due to the Watch Fire, and a number have reportedly lost their homes.
According to the San Carlos Apache Forest Resources Program – Forestry, the fire has been dubbed the Watch Fire and had grown to more than 1,100 acres as of early Thursday night. (Updated) It has been listed as human-caused and spread from a brush fire in the 7 Mile District area Thursday afternoon. The wind drove the fire through Downtown San Carlos, toward Peridot Siding and Old Moonrise, prompting evacuations.
Multiple homes have reportedly been lost. The fire also burned utility lines, knocking out power.

Local firefighters and a team from Globe have been battling the blaze on the ground while a trio of helicopters and planes battle from above as aerial resources.
An evacuation shelter is located at the Michael Noline Activity Center in Peridot at the Peridot Rodeo Grounds. Those who need transportation can call (928) 961-6259.
