SAFFORD – The moment fans of the number-one condiment in the U.S. have been waiting for all year is nearly here as the 18th annual SalsaFest – The Year of the Chimichanga – is ready to pop off this weekend.  

From Friday, Sept. 27 through Saturday, Sept. 28, in Downtown Safford, the 2024 NatureSweet SalsaFest will come alive with an exciting blend of food, music, and activities for all ages. All activities will take place near the Safford City Hall Lawn, located at 717 W. Main St.

The two-day festival will kick off Friday at 5 p.m. with the NatureSweet SalsaFest “Year of the Chimichanga” Opening Ceremonies, followed by live music from Mariachi Luz de Luna and an array of food and beverage offerings. Local restaurants will provide salsa tastings in the Taste of the Trail, a refreshing beverage from the Estrella Jalisco Beer Garden, and family-friendly entertainment such as kids’ karaoke and a movie night in the Mini Chimi Party Zone.

On Saturday, the action for amateur salsa makers starts early with the CMI SalsaFest Challenge at 7 a.m., followed by performances from Gila Cheer, live music from 2024 Gila Idol Winner Kamea Nelson and other local artists, and kids activities, including an instrument petting zoo, water games, and bounce houses. At noon, United States Representative Juan Ciscomani will join Safford City Council Member Dusti Brantner in welcoming the world to Southern Arizona followed by more live music.

Don’t miss the Awards Ceremony at 8 p.m. and the XS Band Street Dance on Saturday night, where the community will gather for an evening of celebration under the stars. There will be many food and drink options available from food trucks and booths as well as a street mercado for unique gifts and toys.

SalsaFest is two days packed with activities for visitors of all ages, including live music, dance performances, cultural demonstrations, food vendors, and family entertainment. Admission is free, and there is something for everyone to enjoy, from music lovers and foodies to families looking for a fun day out. Come join the celebration and experience the heart and soul of Southern Arizona!
