SAFFORD – It’s nearly time to tantalize your taste buds with the 13th annual SalsaFest in Downtown Safford this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28.

The fun starts Friday night at 5 p.m. with the SalsaFest Marketplace opening up after the welcoming. Come and check out great deals from local vendors and others while perennial fan favorite Mariachi Luz de Luna performs on the SalsaFest Stage.

Jon Johnson File Photo/Gila Herald: There is sure to be a great number of food vendors at this year’s SalsaFest.

The beer garden will be open for the night’s festivities as well and Heart and Soul will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. to keep the party going. The evening’s festivities will then close at 9:30 p.m.

Saturday is the day of reckoning for salsa makers both amateur and professional. As local judges and the people will decide the best salsa in the competition.

There will be plenty of entertainment on the SalsaFest Stage and, of course, there’s always the exciting salsa eating and jalapeño eating contests. Be sure to check out the artwork at the festival and either make some yourself at the Color on Main Sidewalk Chalk Art or just be amazed at the colorful creations.

Main Street will also feature the Hot Cars of the Salsa Trail and numerous vendors will have a plentitude of goodies to choose from. And did we mention the beer garden will also be flowing Saturday? So, those who like a cold, frosty one will have something to wash down those nachos and salsas.
