SAFFORD – The Graham County Chamber of Commerce is excited to present the “Safford Summer Block Party” this weekend on Main Street. The event runs from 5:30 – 9 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. There will be live music, fun activities, with food, wine, and craft beer tastings at The Venue on Main Street. Special Guest, Michelle Moyer, will perform at the block party at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

“I am very excited for this event. Our goal is to create some weekend magic on Main Street,” said Graham County Chamber of Commerce Interim Director, Vance Bryce. “Many people in the Gila Valley leave town on weekends, and two of our major objectives at the Chamber are to help businesses create reasons for our residents to spend their money locally and to attract visitors to our wonderful community.”

The Safford Summer Block Party will feature local bands The Wookies and Firth Park Breakfast Club, as well as singers, Darryn Kamae, Lacey Bryce, Zaylie Windsor, Hannah Bradley, and Bri Morris. Zaylie will also host a “Kids Karaoke Competition” for children 14 and under. The winner will receive a $100 check from Double R Communications.

Activities will include bounce houses, face painting, hair braiding, water balloon volleyball, and hula hooping, all along the closed portion of Main Street between 5th and Central avenues.

Danny Smith from the Safford Downtown Association said, “Thank you GCCC and sponsors for supporting the heart of Safford in Downtown Safford for the Block Party. Residents and tourists alike seek these authentic places and the events in them. Make it a one evening ‘staycation’ in your own town with dinner and treats Friday or Saturday night.”

Food, wine, and craft beer will be provided by Ginaveve’s and the Main Street Bean, El Coronado, Finch’s Shiver Shack, Foreign Angels Charities, III Counties Distributing, Elgin Winery, and Sonoita Vineyards.

These wineries approached the Chamber after the Safford Wine, Art, and History Festival in April and asked if the Chamber would co-host a wine tasting at The Venue on Main Street this summer. “The block party grew out of that invitation,” said Bryce. “As soon as we get our formula figured out, I’m hoping to host block parties all over The Gila Valley. Imagine a block party down the street from Taylor Freeze from Pima, or a fun party in Daley Estates in Thatcher. We are also happy to partner with anyone in the community that would like to set up an event at which local businesses can both sponsor and sell their products.”

Each attendee will be given a free raffle ticket for $25 gift cards from Ginaveve’s and El Coronado. The drawings will be at 8 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Attendees must be present to win.
