Safford Police looking for a person of interest in shooting death

SAFFORD – Police are on the lookout for a person of interest in the shooting death of a Safford man on Sunday night. Authorities have identified Chezerae Arrellin Jr., 19, of Safford, as a person of interest in the shooting death of Adam Christopher Avalos, 31, of Safford.

The incident occurred at 326 S. 8th Ave. in the Copper Springs RV Park. Officers were initially dispatched to the area at about 9:37 p.m. regarding shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers were advised a victim had been shot and located a deceased male in the parking area of the residence. The male was identified as Avalos.

According to a Safford Police Department release, Chezerae Arrellin Jr., 19, of Safford, is a person of interest and is wanted by police for questioning. Anyone with information regarding the incident or Arrellin’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Safford Police Department at (928) 428-0808. The area of the shooting is an active crime scene and police advise certain areas are not available to access at this time.

Deputies with the Graham County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Pima and Thatcher Police Departments assisted at the scene.
