SAFFORD — The Safford Police Department has officially earned accreditation through the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP), a distinguished recognition awarded by the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP). The achievement recognizes the department’s commitment to professional excellence, accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in serving the Safford community.
Accreditation is awarded only after an extensive evaluation of an agency’s policies, procedures, training, operations, and leadership, followed by an independent on-site assessment to verify compliance with Arizona’s recognized professional standards for law enforcement.
“This accreditation reflects the dedication, professionalism, and integrity of every member of our department,” said Chief Brian Avila. “It represents years of hard work and a shared commitment to providing exceptional service to our community. While we are proud of this accomplishment, we view accreditation not as the finish line, but as our commitment to continually improve and uphold the highest standards of policing.”
The department extends special recognition to Sergeant Nicolas Muenchow, Accreditation Manager, whose leadership, diligence, and tireless efforts were instrumental in guiding the agency through the accreditation process. The Safford Police Department would also like to recognize its sworn officers, professional staff, City leadership, community partners, and the citizens of Safford for their continued support throughout this journey.
This achievement reinforces the department’s commitment to providing professional, ethical, and transparent law enforcement while continually strengthening public trust and enhancing the quality of service delivered to the community.
