Safford Middle School wins Safford Invitational

SAFFORD – The Safford Middle School emerged from its 15-team Safford Invitational on Saturday and came out on top by 65 points. The team finished with 10 medals and two outstanding wrestler awards.

Safford finished with 273 points, followed by Morenci in second place with 208 points, and Dominate Club Wrestling, of Green Valley, in third place with 205 points. 

Tournament champions included Josiah Carrasco (68-pounds), Noah Dominguez (125 pounds), and Kaleb Cordova (154 pounds). Carrasco and Cordova were also awarded Outstanding Wrestler plaques for the invitational. 

Other Safford wrestlers who placed included Kody Gluyas (third place, 88 pounds), Anthony Garrobo (third place, 111 pounds), Bernie Carrillo (second place, 118 pounds), Monster Rios (third place, 118 pounds), Gary Smith (second place, 167 pounds), Richard Ortiz (third place, 200 pounds), and Trevor Sanchez (second place, heavyweight).
