SAFFORD – The Safford City-Graham County Library is expanding its current Library of Things collection with the addition of Memory Maker Kits. The Library of Things is a collection of objects such as STEAM kits, book club bundles, wellness items, and board games that are available to borrow with a valid Safford library card.

For people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, a remembered moment from the past can be a fleeting and special thing. Photographs, music, and memorabilia from the past can trigger memories and provide a way for caregivers and loved ones to connect. Memory Maker Kits have been designed to support those with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and their families by providing items to spark those memories and conversations. Currently the library is offering kits around the topics of the great outdoors, Mexico, garden birds, farming/gardening, and menus from the 50s,60s, and 70s.

“Our hope is that these kits can make a difference for those who are going through challenging times in their lives. We have seen them be very effective for other libraries and are pleased to bring another service to our community” said Lesley Talley, Assistant Library Director.

The Memory Maker Kits were generously funded by The Friends of the Safford Library.
