SAFFORD – Picture leaving your home on an errand or to go to a store and upon your return the entrance is blocked by firetrucks and your home has been destroyed by fire. That is what a Safford family is dealing with.
An accidental house fire caused smoke and heat damage throughout a residence at 1801 Mesa Circle on Wednesday night.
According to Safford Fire Chief Clark Bingham, Safford Fire was dispatched at about 7:22 p.m. and sent three trucks. Upon arrival, Bingham advised flames were seen inside the residence and a window exploded outward from the fire in front of them.
Firefighters went inside the residence to extinguish the blaze and were on duty on the fire for about two hours. The firefighters kept it to the single structure with no reported injuries to any respondents or firefighters.
Bingham said the fire was burning in the living room and a neighbor called 9-1-1 after hearing the residence’s smoke alarm. The neighbor looked closer and saw a fire in the living room by a vacuum cleaner. The occupants had left the residence, and by the time they came home, Safford Fire was on the scene.
The fire was deemed accidental and “nothing suspicious was found,” according to Bingham.
