Renée Elise Goldsberry stars as Henrietta Lacks, the African-American woman whose cancer cells were the source of the HeLa immortal cell line, one of the most important cell lines in medical research to this day. Though taken without consent, uncredited and held in secret for decades, Henrietta’s contributions to science helped establish several breakthroughs in medical biology, including the polio vaccination and stem cell research.
