SAFFORD – A prayer vigil for Safford Mayor Jason Kouts will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at Eastern Arizona College’s Gherald L. Hoopes Activities Center, starting at 7 p.m.

This will be an interfaith service and was organized by Safford City council member Michael Andazola Sr.

Kouts, who has been battling cancer, was recently diagnosed as having cancer spread to Stage 4.

Instead of taking such devastating news just lying down, Kouts went out the next week and refereed the boys basketball rivalry game between Thatcher and Pima. Racing up and down the court in step with the student-athletes, one did not have an indication of such a dire summation from his doctors.

So, in step with that Kouts will continue to fight for his recovery, and Andazola Sr. has asked the community to come and take part in his healing with words of prayer Friday, Feb. 3, at the Gherald L. Hoopes Activities Center, starting at 7 p.m.
